Blog Day 51- For Gary

It’s day 51 and we have just passed the 100 mile mark. It’s time to reflect on the adventure that we have been on for the last 50 days. Whilst in la gomera we were told that the row will change the way we think and the way we look at life. For us the over riding emotion is a sense of gratitude, and because of this I want to say a number of thank you’s. Firstly to our families and girlfriends, you have been incredibly supportive and encouraging throughout the campaign. It is safe to say we simply could not have done this without you. To friends and supporters, your passion for the row, generous donations and your kind messages have kept us going in our darkest hours, you have lifted spirits and kept our feet grounded.

As I’m sure you are all aware we are rowing to raise money for the MS Trust, and I must extended a massive thank you to the charity. They have been there every step of the way. Thank you to everyone at the trust, you are all heroes in our eyes, and you are changing people’s lives everyday.

Finally, as I sit in what can only be described as a mid-Atlantic sauna of a cabin I can see three people in front of me who deserve the biggest thanks of all. Over 18 months ago the idea to row the Atlantic was dreamt up, and as if that wasn’t hard enough we also set ourselves the target to raise £100,000 for the MS Trust. At that point in time none of these men had even heard of the trust or knew much about their work, but since then you have grown incredibly passionate and dedicated to achieving both goals. Boys, I cannot thank you enough for the sacrifices you had made.

I wanted to raise money for the MS Trust because my uncle unfortunately passed away in 2009 after suffering with MS for many years. He tragically died at the age of 51 and this was the reason we gave our boat that same race number. In some ways it is therefore incredibly fitting that we are due to arrive in Antigua after 51 days at sea. My uncle loved adventure, he lived for the outdoors and has been a real inspiration behind the campaign.

Gary this one was for you, I hope we have done you proud.

Love Dave
